Something really nice happened during our February 13 F*cking Cobras exhibition at Sixstar Art Studios. My friend Travis Knous had commissioned artist Paul Leroy (Lucky Leroy) Gheres to do one of his famous caricature portraits… of me!

I had no idea, until the two of them came in and surprised me with it during the exhibition. I absolutely LOVE it!

As the show was Friday night, before the regular Second Saturday Art Walk, a lot of artists were able to come by. I had a great evening talking with tons of artists and collectors, who were curious about my art and the way it continues to evolve. It was validating to see their interest and curiosity.

Plus, I am now “Florida Famous”, thanks to Leroy and Travis.

This blog will be short, as I am still recovering from recent prostate surgery (not cancer-related) and am quite low on energy. I hope to be back in the studio soon.

Envelop

Last month I continued to explore optical techniques in my original spray acrylic work. It’s fun to slice up a work and rearrange, so the image mirrors itself left to right, and right to left.

Do you feel enveloped in the boxed interior of the finished piece? I did, hence the name.

Cityscape

This is part of an ongoing experiment with something that’s hard for me… being messy and imprecise. Being not completely in control. Gluing down and ripping up. Not knowing where I am going until I arrive at an unplanned destination.

In this case, the unplanned destination was the jagged skyscraper skyline of a gritty, unnamed city.
